Van Cooking: Recipe of the Month
Creamy Hot Cocoa
“Campfire burning, marshmallow roasting, a blanket around you and of course a cup of this amazing and satisfying hot cocoa.”
Ingredients
1/3C UNSWEET COCOA POWDER
1/2C GRANULATED SUGAR
PINCH OF SALT
1/4C MAPLE SYRUP
1/2 WATER
3C MILK
1/2C HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
1TSP PURE VANILLA EXTRACT
1/2TSP CINNAMON
MARSHMALLOWS FOR TOPPING (OPTIONAL)
Directions
In a pot combine sugar, maple syrup, water, a pinch of salt, bring to a boil stirring constantly, lower the heat to simmer and add the milk and cream until hot. Remove from heat. mic in the vanilla and add cinnamon.

As we head into those colder camping months, there is nothing quite as comforting as sitting around the campfire with a delicious creamy warm treat. Headed for a day of adventure? Prepare and store in your thermos to open while you enjoy that view. As we have had the experience of sharing van life with our little kids, we often find their highlights aren’t the same as ours. We look back and marvel as the view at the top of the mountain, or that challenging climb. But, they claim the best parts were the homemade hot chocolate by the campfire or that silly nature hunt along the way. Anything to add to their adventure!
To keep the packing to a minimum, we recommend premixing your dry ingredients. Our preparation encourages our flexibility.
Don’t forget to roast those marshmallows before tossing them in your cozy cup of chocolate… talk about leveling up!
